Along the way, you’ll visit the sacred Nakayima Tree, believed to hold the spirit of Nakayima, wife of the Muchwezi ruler Ndahura. This site is significant for traditional worship and cultural storytelling. Upon arrival in Fort Portal, you’ll explore the Amabere g’Nyinamwiru Caves, where local legends tell of Nyinamwiru, daughter of the self-enthroned Bachwezi King Bukuku. The site’s striking, breast-like formations and the surrounding crater lakes offer a fascinating glimpse into local mythology and natural beauty.

After breakfast, you’ll visit the Royal Palace of Toro, majestically situated on a hill overlooking Fort Portal town with the Rwenzori Mountains as a backdrop. The day includes participating in local practices like cattle grazing, playing traditional instruments, and singing. After breakfast, you’ll drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park through the scenic Kigezi Highlands, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa.” The route provides breathtaking views of the Virunga Volcanoes. Upon arrival, settle in for relaxation and enjoy dinner at the lodge.

Explore the rich heritage of the Batwa people on a guided trail through Mgahinga Park. Today, you’ll journey back to Kampala with stops at cultural landmarks along the way. Visit the 1520AD Eclipse Monument, which commemorates a significant solar eclipse that altered the course of history for the Ankole people. Nearby, the Igongo Cultural Center offers a comprehensive museum showcasing the traditions of southwestern Uganda. Enjoy a traditional lunch before continuing the journey to Kampala.

Your final day is dedicated to exploring Kampala’s rich cultural heritage. Visit the Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and burial place of Buganda kings. Explore the Lubiri Palace and Bulange Parliament, which reflect the Buganda Kingdom’s historical governance. Discover the man-made Kabaka’s Lake, then head to the Uganda National Museum for an extensive collection of artifacts.
